ABOUT USTRON

Ustro
ń is a health resort town in Cieszyn Silesia, southern Poland. It is situated in the Silesian Voivodeship (since 1999), having previously been in Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship (1975–1998). It lies in the Silesian Beskids mountain range.

According to the Austrian census of 1910 the town had 4,275 inhabitants, 4,265 of whom had permanent residence there. The census asked people for their native language; 3,917 (91.8%) were Polish-speaking and 333 (7.8%) were German-speaking. Jews were not allowed to declare Yiddish; most of them thus declared the German language as their native. The most populous religious groups were Protestants with 2,439 (57%) followed by Roman Catholics with 1,728
(40.4%) and the Jews with 107 (2.5%).

The town has a futuristic outlook because of a cluster of pyramid-shaped hotels. It is also the home of the Jan Jarocki Museum. It was founded in April 1986 as Museum of Metallurgy. Burned by Tatars 1241. It is housed in an old building of the former Klemens Steel Works, which was in use between 1772 and 1897. The museum collects technical tools, as well as historical and ethnographic artifacts.

The Równica and Czantoria mountains are nearby and hikable from the town centre. Czantoria is a real paradise for skiers and snowboarders, has a ski school and a bunny slope for kids, where professional skiing instructors will look after your kids while you enjoy skiing!

Some of the attractions you can expect when visiting our beautiful town

CZANTORIA MOUNTAIN

Undoubtedly one of the most interesting touristic attractions in Ustroń is the chairlift on Czantoria Mountain existing since 1967, which is located in one of the parts of Ustron called Polana, near the road from Katowice to Wisla. Such location makes the place easy to reach by car as well as by public transport (bus or train). There's also guarded parking place near the lower station. Moreover tourists have at their disposal restaurants and, during winter, left-luggage office and ski equipment hiring establishment.

The lower station of the cable railway is sited at an altitude of 389m. Up from there you are taken by a four chair lift to an altitude of 851m, which takes about 6 minutes. You can walk up the touristic track to reach the peak of Czantoria Wielka (alt. 993m), where there is an open touristic border crossing with the Czech Republic. From the view tower situated at the top you can admire beautiful views on both sides of the border. The top of Czantoria Wielka is a convenient spot to start the ramble over the trails of Beskid Śląski.

Children under the age of ten can travel by the cable railway only when assisted by an adult, whereas babies can only be carried in slings.

SUMMER SLEDGE TRACK

Summer Sledge Track, situated by the upper station of the cable railway, was built and launched in 1997. It winds its serpentine way of the length of 710m along nine turnings and has about 50m of difference in levels. The maximum speed of the ride is 30 km/h.

The speed of the ride is controlled by the rider with the use of a brake and is additionally limited by the centrifugal brake which works automatically. The sledges are taken back to the starting place by the ski lift over the 200m-long track of guided ride.

Children under the age of eight can use the slide only when assisted by an adult. The ride on the track is completely safe provided that you respect the track usage rules, information signs and the instructions of the staff.
